Can Construction Firms Meet the Demands of New Law Enforcement Projects?

Can Construction Firms Meet the Demands of New Law Enforcement Projects? Upcoming public sector opportunities can be found in almost every area of the public sector marketplace. But, at the moment, the sheer number of upcoming opportunities related to law enforcement facilities is enough to make one ponder. Has every incarceration facility become obsolete all at once? Have local and state officials all decided to upgrade jails, prisons, and justice centers at the same time for some reason? Are there enough experienced construction firms ready to meet the demand? Although most would think of law enforcement projects as being small, that’s not necessarily the case. Not only are hundreds of individual projects extremely large, but many upcoming projects also are being designed to consolidate law enforcement, fire, and emergency personnel. Those projects will definitely be large, and many are significant enough to catch the interest of private sector investors. Officials in New Yor...

The Pros and Cons of Purchasing a New Build

The Pros and Cons of Purchasing a New Build We all love “shiny and new” — and newly-built single-family homes are downright irresistible.  And when the existing home inventory is limited, and consumers have confidence in the market, a significant number of homeowners will consider a newly-built residence. However, it’s not a slam-dunk decision. There are benefits and disadvantages to purchasing a new build. These are some of the factors to consider. A new build isn’t someone’s leftover home The only thing better than new car smell is new house smell. The first home I ever purchased was a new build and, as a germaphobe, I loved the idea that no one else had ever hung clothes in my closets, cooked in my kitchen, parked in my garage or sat in my garden tub. Admittedly, I have no idea what the contractors and workers did before I moved in. As a true germophobe, I still scrubbed every A new build is up to code and up-to-date “People like to say that we ‘don’t b...

A GUIDE TO GROUND PENETRATING RADAR SERVICES

A GUIDE TO GROUND PENETRATING RADAR SERVICES Undergrounding utilities, either with a concrete slab indoors or outdoors before getting down to work, is a must, especially when it comes to mapping and surveying the site of your project. To identify subsurface utilities including buried fiber optics, asphalt, concrete, terracotta, composite pipes, gas lines and plastic water pipes, GPR which is designed using the latest GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) technology, is the only non intrusive method you can use. To display, on a screen, a live image showing the position and depth of the object or pipe in question, GPR uses the same working principle used by sonar devices fitted on boats, a receiver is used to detect and record a “backscattered” signal. GPR is a remarkable piece of technology designed for construction purposes when paired with vacuum excavation 1. MAKING A HOMEOWNERS DREAMS OF A DECK A REALITY

MAKING A HOMEOWNERS DREAMS OF A DECK A REALITY Homeowners often don’t utilize their outdoor space as well as they could. This is usually due to the lack of a deck area. Decks are ideal for entertaining or simply relaxing on a beautiful summer afternoon. Sadly, many homeowners don’t believe they can add a deck, but many obstacles are easy to overcome. UNEVEN GROUND A yard that is sloped or uneven is no longer a problem when it comes to adding a deck to a house. A first-floor deck can be kept level by using a  pedestal deck system . This unique system uses adjustable height legs so that the floor of the deck remains flat while the ground underneath is uneven. Another solution would be to add a deck to a second story. It would be much like a balcony that that homeowner could use for relaxing. TOO MUCH SUN Homeowners may choose not to have a deck due to the amount of sun their backyard gets each day. A quick solution to this problem is to install a retractable awning. Th...

5 TIPS FOR EXTERIOR HOME MAINTENANCE

5 TIPS FOR EXTERIOR HOME MAINTENANCE Maybe you’re a first-time homeowner. Maybe you’ve been living in your house for awhile, but you could use some tips for increasing your curb appeal. Whatever your reasons for wanting to tackle exterior home maintenance, here are just a few ideas for getting started. 1. Take Care of Your Lawn Do you envy those lush green lawns that you always see in property brochures? You can achieve the same thing with your own yard; you just have to be willing to put in the work. For example, you have to regularly cut, water and fertilize your grass to keep it healthy, and you have to make a point of trimming your bushes and hedges. A gorgeous yard takes effort! 2. Clean Your Gutters Nasty gutters are more than just an eyesore. They can also clog your home’s exterior waterways and cause overflows or structural damage. In extreme cases, they can even cause injuries to homeowners; when “ice dams” are created by clogged gutters in the wintertime, it’s...

All About the Moroccan Chic Style

All About the Moroccan Chic Style We hope you like the products we recommend. Just so you are aware, Freshome may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.  Chic is one of those words you often see thrown around in the design world. It’s especially common to see it added to certain design styles to update an older look for modern sensibilities, as is the case with rustic chic and even boho chic. And one style that’s easy to fall in love with is the Moroccan chic style. Like other styles that make use of the word chic, Moroccan chic is about taking the classic Moroccan design style and updating it for a more modern appeal. The Moroccan style has very distinctive architectural, color and pattern traits. However, it can also look dated on its own since it has so many classical elements to it. Moroccan chic takes some of those Moroccan features and combines them with modern sensibilities, like a judicious use of color and choosing one pattern as a focal point. Be...

Tour a Hygge Minimalist Attic Apartment in Hannover, Germany

Tour a Hygge Minimalist Attic Apartment in Hannover, Germany I am so excited today to share the home of a lovely new friend of mine here in my very own city of Hannover, Germany. Her name is Sandra and her Instagram account is called @Karlas_view . I have followed her on IG for over a year now and love her posts, usually of her home, but also some with her wedding day and the lovely trips that she and her husband take together. Sandra is not a designer (shocking to me, she is a pure natural talent at design!) and doesn’t even work in the design industry, yet she lives like a designer would - in a home that is so carefully edited and just beautiful. I’ve actually been to her house (just last week), so I can tell you that she really does live this way, it’s not just “Instagram Perfect”, her home is so organized and nicely styled. It was great to be inside the space and also to meet Sandra in person. Now, let me show you her fabulous home at the top of an old building, where she ...
